Fall Waterways Cleanup

Fall Waterways Cleanup coincides with the International Coastal Cleanup and beautiful end-of-summer weather - a great time to explore local streams, beaches and parks, and do your part to stop the flow of trash into the environment. Keep Rockland Beautiful offers the same support and supplies to volunteer groups as during our massive cleanup campaign in April -- trash bags, temporary tattoos, wristbands, t-shirts (while they last), and guidance on site selection, safety and environmental education.

We are organizing to support cleanups of Hudson River beaches and the Hackensack River, as well as local streams such as the Pascack Brook, Nauruashaun Brook, Nyack Brook, the Sparkill, and the Minisceongo. Please call for more info.We have not yet created a separate online registration form for this event, but there is a downloadable registration form and a downloadable event flyer on this page, and a host ofrelevant information about our support for volulnteer cleanups on the Great American Cleanup page.

Laplaca Fills 1000th Bag of Trash

John Laplaca is a man on a mission for God and Country against the "slobs" who would defile Rockland's precious waterways and scenic areas. An avid fisherman, photographer and woodsman, John knows the County like the back of his hand from his work fixing phone lines for Verizon, and fishing every pool of water he can find. Hardly a day passes that John does not fill at least a half-dozen trashbags with litter on his way home from work. Weekends find John hauling trash from Sterling Forest, Harriman Park, and any little woodsy area that needs a bit of TLC.

On Saturday, September 27, with help from KRB volunteers, John will fill his 1000th bag of 2008, completing his personal challenge for the year, by cleaning up a popular "party-spot" on the Nauraushaun Brook off Tulip Ln in Nanuet. Who wants to help John complete his mission? Call KRB for details -- let's give John a boost!! Click here for YouTube video of kids pulling couch from Nauraushaun!
