The Historic Bath House
Prior to 1910, when the PIPC purchased the Manhattan Trap Rock Company in Upper Nyack, the massive stone building at Nyack Beach State Park housed the powerful steam engines driving rock crushing machines for Hook Mtn quarries. Later, with the creation of the park and daily steamships from NYC, the building was developed as a Bath House in 1936, where beachgoers could change clothes, get a bite to eat, and gather in groups. A 200 foot balcony made of extinct American Chestnut wood overlooks the central ballroom, where a massive stone fireplace provides heat, light and ambiance. The PowerHouse is truly a gem in the rough and represents an extraordinary opportunity for our community to reinvent a forgotten treasure as a venue for community events and a monument to our preservation history.
