Job Title:  Cleanup Coordinator

Position Description:  

The Cleanup Coordinator supports the promotion, planning, coordination and implementation of Keep Rockland Beautiful’s bi-annual cleanup and environmental education campaigns – the Great American Cleanup April – May & the Fall Waterways Cleanup September – November. 

Together these campaigns engage thousands of volunteers throughout the county in removing 30+ tons of debris from the environment and our communities, while providing a powerful vehicle for raising awareness about ways to reduce waste and protect our waterways   The position provides a balance of outdoor and indoor work and a significant opportunity to build relationships in the community and to grow in major areas of responsibility and leadership.  

Reports to:  Executive Director

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop strategies that strengthen the Great American Cleanup (GAC) and Fall Waterways Cleanup campaigns’ visibility, partnerships, volunteer participation and impact in  protecting the environment and fostering environmental stewardship
  • Cultivate volunteer engagement, partnerships, and sponsorships through outreach and relationship building
  • Support Community Cleanup Event leaders
  • Assist in development and distribution of marketing/sponsored materials
  • Manage on-line registration and reporting with support of website consultant
  • Support volunteer participation and education with cleanup and educational supplies 
  • Promote visibility and engagement with social media

Specific Responsibilities:

Campaign Outreach and Volunteer Support

  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies that reach and engage volunteers of all ages in all towns, villages and hamlets throughout Rockland utilizing the website, media, personal outreach and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan, develop sponsored marketing materials.  Distribute/hang  GAC’s sponsored promotional banners.  
  • Manage on-line and off-line volunteer registration and reporting, working with the website consultant to update web pages, forms and follow-up emails.
  • Support Community Cleanup Leaders with training, guidance, communication, and assistance at events.  Work with KRB Board to prepare them for participation and support at events
  • Provide volunteers with supplies and guidance on cleanup sites and  events 
  • Scope out and survey for cleanup sites
  • Coordinate and lead corporate team and select group events
  • Manage seasonal staff and volunteers to assist with outreach, inventory, distribution of cleanup supplies, data entry, and assistance at cleanup events

Supply Inventory and Distribution

  • Identify and order needed supplies and sponsored materials.  Assist in the design of promotional/sponsored materials
  • Manage supply inventory and storage facility.  Oversee distribution of loaned/free supplies and orientation/educational materials. 

Data Collection and Analysis

  • Update database with accurate volunteer data from outreach, registration and reporting
  • Develop bi-annual plan to engage volunteer assistance, as needed, to perform site assessments and litter surveys
  • Work with Executive Director to develop and analyze performance measures of the impact of cleanup campaigns
  • Prepare reports for Board members and partners

Website and Social Media maintenance

  • Work with Executive Director and website consultant to develop/maintain on-line registration and reporting process  and create content for website pages, including educational materials and event promotion
  • Provide content for KRB social media platforms

Development Support

  • Work with KRB Board of Directors and staff, Cleanup Event Leaders and  partners to cultivate sponsorships and donations. 
  • Support Annual Meeting and fundraising events

Qualifications

    • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple priorities and deadlines
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with members of a team
    • Experience with data collection, entry, reporting and analysis
    • Proficiency in MS Office software; Google Suite applications; WordPress, and CRM management experience a plus
    • Desire and ability to work outdoors, perform some physical work, and lift at least 25 lbs.
    • Ability to work in a small office environment with shared resources
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work remotely as needed

Education and Experience:

  • At least two years’ relevant work experience with excellent references
  • Participation in Keep Rockland Beautiful programs a plus

Schedule:

  • This is a part-time position requiring an annual average of 33 hours per week, with 40 hours per week February – May for the Great American Cleanup Campaign  Weekend work is required during the Great American Cleanup and Fall Waterways Campaigns.  The summer months are typically 15-20 hours per week.
  • Remote work is considered when not needed on site
  • Preferred start date for position is on or before 1-23-23  

Compensation: 

  • Starting wage is $20.00 – $21.00 per hour
  • Two weeks paid vacation
  • Thirteen days paid holidays
